We are committed to fostering resilience and enhancing livelihoods through targeted interventions in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) region.
READO in Kenya
With over 15 years of experience working in Somalia, READO has established itself as a key player in addressing the challenges of climate change, water access, and sustainable livelihoods. Our work primarily focuses on empowering communities by improving access to essential services such as water, sanitation, and sustainable agriculture.
Our Expansion into Kenya
Building on our successful programs in Somalia, READO is now expanding its operations into Kenya, particularly in the Mandera Triangle, with a mission to replicate our climate resilience and water accessibility programs. The Mandera region faces severe water scarcity and recurrent droughts, impacting local livelihoods, particularly for pastoral and farming communities. Through our recent needs assessment conducted in Mandera East and Lafey sub-counties, we identified critical gaps in water access and infrastructure, which we aim to address with targeted interventions.
Our Approach
In collaboration with local communities and government authorities, we employ a participatory approach to ensure that our solutions are locally-driven and sustainable. Our strategies include:
- Rehabilitation and construction of water points to ensure equitable access to safe drinking water.
- Promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and livelihoods.
- Capacity building for community-based organizations to strengthen local governance and management of natural resources.
Looking ahead
As we expand into Kenya, READO is committed to working closely with communities and stakeholders to enhance resilience against climate-related shocks. Our focus will be on long-term, sustainable solutions that empower communities and improve their livelihoods. By replicating successful models, such as our solar-powered drip irrigation systems, we aim to provide lasting impacts in the region.
